SLOW START ROLLS ON FOR THE SAINTS

Week two for The Saints see them travel down the A1 to see tough oppostition from Rotherham Elhaim who had previously won thier last game. With Injuries stricken by last weeks loss to Jorvik Blades, The Reds felt like now was the time to prove their worth. With another strong start from A.S Normanton they managed to push through with a one goal lead, as left back Tom Parkinson cleared for forward James Parkinson to slip a through ball for top striker Peter Grant to poke past the keeper. However, like in previous matches Normantons fitness held back further attacks as Rotherham rallied through to score 4 goals in quick successsion. By this time Normantons heads had fallen and things looked gloomy, with over 15 mins left of the first half the Reds slipped back and took a deep breath as they tried to hold onto ball possession and most of all, to stop the rampage of Rotherham. With a fortunate break and promising football by Normanton they managed to get back into the game as another threw ball by J Parkinson left Peter Grant a shot that made the keeper scramble into the goal. With more flare and good passing from Normanton, They worked hard to keep Rotherham at bay, end of first half 5-2 to the home side.

When Normanton returned to the pitch they looked motivated, with strong words from injured player/manager Andrew Huddlestone they kicked off with a mind for goals. Inexperianced Normanton battled and battled through the Rotherham defence with no avail. In the 52nd Min Forward James Parkinson who had felt a strain in his hamstring early in the pre match warm up had to be subsituted by flying winger Ash Crizock. Shortley after Defender Martin Brown also limped off injured and was replaced by Karl Watson, who is also a fast winger. This pace added new life to the Normanton side, but not before Rotherham could slide more goals past the Normanton nets. However with the frustration from Normanton who felt decision after decision had not been given by the referee played into another level, to see a superb strike by centre midfielder Craig Beddard fly past the dispair of the keeper, such a wonderful strike saw new confidence grow in the sqaud when minutes later another effort by Craig beddard saw the ball bounce from the wood work but then to be finished Peter Grant.

Late in the second half with attacks flying both ways saw more goals, in particular to the rotherham side who had by the end had punished Normanton with 9 goals. But with more strikes from Peter Grant and a good team effort that saw Jonny Clark score his first for the new club, Normanton had fought back to an admirably 6 goals. But with fitness still playin a large part of Normantons defeat, and some unlucky but sloppy defending saw Rotherham triumphant over The Saints. However from this Normanton picked up the confidence to go forward knowing that thier first victory is in the grasp of thier hands and that the bonding between the players has seen the team spirit grow through the roof.
